Photography Days
The Centre is a great place for photography, and and even better place to host Photography Days! There is a large collection of spectacular raptors, many of them out of doors and accessible at close range. In the Hawk Walk, the flying team of birds can be photographed from many different angles. Many of the large birds have proved to be the popular subjects of close-up portraits. The flying field and our wooded areas have a natural backdrop of trees in beautiful Yorkshire countryside. The photography days are held in association with Steve Race from Yorkshire Coast Nature.
During the demonstrations, birds will fly directly overhead and whether or not you have a long lens, you will always get an opportunity for a close encounter. The challenge of flight photography is there for anyone who wants to have a go.
Tuition
Photography day participants will receive group and individual tuition. This will be provided by Steve Race, award winning wildlife photographer. Steve is a professional wildlife photographer and Director of Yorkshire Coast Nature – www.yorkshirecoastnature.co.uk. Steve is a fellow “bird nerd” and is a mine of information on all sorts of birds – from sea birds to raptors.
The workshops will be tailored towards both beginners and enthusiasts. We will look at the techniques and equipment needed to photograph birds of prey and advice and tips will be given on how to get that perfect wildlife image. You will learn about correct exposure, how to deal with tricky lighting conditions such as harsh sunlight or low light levels, and depth of field techniques to compensate for the expanse of open parkland and woodland.
There will be ample opportunity to take portrait style photos of a number of different species against natural backgrounds. In addition the photographers have their own private flying demo tailored to their own needs.
The maximum group size is 12
Workshops start at 10am and finish about 1pm and cost just £70 per person
