Eating Out

Helmsley and the surrounding area has many wonderful places to eat. We share an enthusiasm for encouraging tourism in this area. If you would like to share reciprocal links with us, please let us know with details of your business.

The Star Inn, Harome

Chef/manager Andrew Pern’s cooking needs little introduction. This is a truly world class restaurant – and a personal favourite of ours. Andrew is a big supporter of the Centre – we have even cooked for him on one of our Winter Owl Evenings! Treat yourself to a meal at The Star – you won’t regret it!

Scott's Fish and Chips

Scotts Fish and Chips of Helmsley are not only award winning, but are probably the best you’ll ever have. In fact you’ll often see NCBP staff dining here! They even do gluten free batter – all cooked in an exclusively gluten free fryer. If all this isn’t enough – if you take your NCBP wristband, they’ll give you a 20% discount in the restaurant. Can’t say fairer than that!

Porters Coffee Shop

Porters Coffee Shop on the market place in Helmsley is pretty much everything you could ever want from a cafe. A warm welcome from Tony and Monica, great coffee, good food and an open fire.

The Pheasant

The Pheasant has arguably one of the most beautiful country hotel settings in North Yorkshire, overlooking the duck pond in the picturesque village of Harome.

Crema Coffee Shop

Crema Coffee House was recently extended – it’s like the Tardis in there! Easily found on Borogate, serving fabulous Pumphreys coffee.

The Hare at Scawton

The Hare at Scawton is making quite a name for itself in fine dining. They are fellow White Rose Award winners and have also triumphed at the  Flavours of Herriot Country awards. Their desserts deserve special mention – you’ll not get something from the freezer here; as much skill and attention goes in to the desserts as all the other parts of the meal.

Located in the middle of Helmsley and run by our very own Fran from the Fat Chef Company – Gepetto’s is well worth a visit

The Feathers - Helmsley

A firm favourite with locals and visitors alike – the Feathers is right on Helmsley’s market place. The fish pie deserves a special mention!
